Weg zum Seiner Kreuz

Winter tour to the Hirschegger Alm

A wonderful winter hike, which can be done with snowshoes or touring skis, depending on the snow conditions.

From the Pongratzwirt, the trail climbs up to the St. Bartholomä Kircherl and continues across open spaces with magnificent panoramic views to the Seiner Kreuz. From here there are several options. You can either walk back the same way or descend to the Saureishütte or, if the weather is fine and the view is good, it is advisable to walk up to the Hirschegger Alm. From here there are wonderful panoramic views over Styria and Carinthia as far as Slovenia. Via the Saureishütte (closed in winter) you descend back to the lovely Pongratzwirt - where you can warm up and quench your thirst if necessary (drinks only!)

Pongratz inn - first across the open meadow and then through the forest - always follow hiking trail 540 - in winter, you can avoid rough forest paths via adjacent meadows (tracks) - through the forest to Bartholomä Kircherl and at the fork (to Saureishütte) continue up to Seiner Kreuz - from Seiner Kreuz open terrain - either descend to Saureishütte (gully! ) - or via 05 long-distance hiking trail via Hirschegger Alm to the summit at 1871m - descent to Saureishütte without trail markings (if the snow conditions are very unsafe, do not walk/ride on too steep terrain) - from Saureishütte first along the forest trail and then hiking trail 540 as ascent. back to Pongratzwirt
If you prefer a long walk, you can also take the loop from Hirschegg via Seiner Kreuz - Hirschegger Alm - Sieben Heufuhren - Bernsteinhütte - old ski slope.
