Steven Spielberg: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – Film Screening
Young Elliott lives with his dysfunctional family in a suburb of Los Angeles. Struggling with loneliness, uncertainty and family tensions, he encounters the friendly extraterrestrial E.T. after a UFO crash-lands on Earth.
The film tells a universal story about friendship, belonging and the development of identity during childhood. Upon its release, E.T. immediately became the highest-grossing film of all time, a record it held until the release of Jurassic Park in 1993.
E.T. has been an important influence on Katherine Bernhardt ever since she saw the film 18 times at the cinema as a child. During her time at art school, E.T. became the first pop culture character to appear in her work and has remained a recurring motif throughout her artistic career. The alien also features in several works in the exhibition Neonfarbblendluminanzwuchtgemaeldenetzhautkollisionsgefahr.
