Visit of the monastery of Rein and the Lurgrotte
After breakfast, you will head off north to the world’s oldest still existing Cistercian monastery. The Rein monastery has not seen a change of ownership since it was founded in 1129, and has lent its support to all religious and cultural goods created throughout those centuries. The tour reveals the valuable handicraft of the Cistercian monks. According to St. Benedict’s principle, a healthy balance of praying/reading the bible and work is to be found in the Latin phrase "Ora et labora". The next station is Semriach, where you can regain your strength at a prolonged lunch. Finally, enter the largest dripstone cave in Austria, the Lurgrotte, and marvel at a most peculiar creation of nature. During the guided tour, you will get a lasting impression of this fabulous fairy-tale world.
