She was an influential woman at a time when very few women were granted any kind of standing in public life: Hildegard von Bingen. The abbess looked after the physical and mental wellbeing of her nuns, identified the healing powers of herbs and tinctures and composed music for she was convinced that the harmony of music was heaven-sent and could heal both spirit and body. Maria Jonas and her female ensemble Ars Choralis Coeln sing Hildegard’s harmonious prescriptions.
