On Thursday, September 24, at 5 p.m., steirischer herbst kicks off at Karmeliterplatz with an opening speech by Artistic Director Ekaterina Degot, followed by the wrestling performance "Paradise Lost: This Fight Is Not a Sign (2026)" by Julian Warner — a compelling staging of the culture wars of our time that sees surprising alliances form (free admission).
From 8:30 p.m., the opening day continues at the Helmut-List-Halle with the dance performance "Angelic Conversations" by Alex Baczyński-Jenkins (ticket required, available at steirischerherbst.at), followed by the opening party (free admission).
