The South Styrian Wine Trail
The best-known wine road in South Styria
The South Styrian Wine Trail is the oldest and best-known of all the Styrian wine routes. The concentration of quality wineries is particularly high along the South Styrian Wine Trail.
The South Styrian Wine Trail can be accessed from the villages of Ehrenhausen, Gamlitz, Spielfeld and Leutschach and has a total length of 25.5 km. The villages of Berghausen, Ratsch, Sulztal, Glanz, Langegg, Schlossberg and Eichberg-Trautenburg are situated in a very idyllic setting directly along the wine route.
Visitors find the drive along the ‘Neutral Road’ particularly charming: it is arguably unique that a 2.5 km stretch of road forms the national border with Slovenia
The picturesque landscape is characterised by well-maintained vineyards, vibrant forests and flowery meadows sweeping the length and breadth of South Styria, up and over the hills. From Ratsch you can get to Gamlitz, to the Sulztal or to Leutschach an der Weinstraße. Again and again you will come across magnificent wine-growing estates, renowned restaurants and traditional Buschenschänken (wine taverns) dotted along the route; warm, inviting places that beckon you inside to rest and reenergise. Sitting on the terraces, with their panoramic views, looking out at the scenery and looking in on yourself, for the briefest of moments you will forget everything around you and feel cocooned in a tranquil world of relaxation and indulgence.
