Sausal Wine Trail
Steep vineyards, panoramic hills and wine villages such as Kitzeck: The Sausal Wine Trail leads through one of Southern Styria’s distinctive wine landscapes and is easy to explore on an excursion from Graz.
The route begins in the wine town of Leibnitz and initially follows the southern slopes of the Sausal wine-growing area through the Sulm Valley. In Fresing, it branches off from the B 74 and climbs through mixed woodland to Kitzeck im Sausal, one of the region’s best-known wine villages.
From here, the sometimes narrow and winding road makes its way through some of Styria’s steepest vineyards. Along the route, beautiful views open up across the surrounding vine-covered hills and valleys. Passing the Demmerkogel, the highest point in the Sausal region, the route continues via Sausalerberg before descending to Maierhof in the Sulm Valley.
