Concert: "Ein deutsches Requiem" by Johannes Brahms – Mariatrost Basilica Choir
Johannes Brahms, who grew up in Protestant Hamburg, did not follow the canonical text of the Requiem for the words of his Mass for the Dead, but instead selected comforting passages from the Old and New Testaments. The seven-part work was composed between 1861 and 1868. The complete work was first performed at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig on 18 February 1869 to great acclaim and has since been one of the most frequently performed requiems in the classical music repertoire. On 15 November, the work will be performed by the Mariatrost Basilica Choir.

Please note: A free shuttle bus will take concert-goers from the foot of the Kirchberg to the basilica and back. You can get there by taking tram line 1. For those travelling by car, parking is available at the Mariatrost P&R car park near the tram terminus.
