Luegghaus

Amongst the superb façades around Hauptplatz main square, the “Luegghaus” on the corner of Sporgasse is particularly striking thanks to its elaborate stucco façade and arcades. The mouths and noses hidden among fruit and flower garlands on the façade will not escape attentive beholders.

Today, the “Luegghaus” is home to the Swarovski Store in Graz.

Good to know

The Luegghaus is located directly on Graz’s Main Square (Hauptplatz) at the corner of Sporgasse. Thanks to its central location within the UNESCO World Heritage city centre of Graz, it is one of the landmarks that visitors are almost certain to encounter while exploring the Old Town.

The name “Luegg” is believed to derive from the word meaning “to look” or “to peek around the corner.” Since the building stands prominently at the corner of Hauptplatz and Sporgasse, the name is thought to have originated from its unique location.

The Luegghaus is renowned for its magnificent Baroque stucco façade and the characteristic arcades on the ground floor. The elaborate decorative details give the building its distinctive appearance and make it one of the architectural highlights of Graz’s Old Town.

The Luegghaus is one of the most striking buildings on Graz’s Main Square. Its richly decorated stucco façade makes it a favourite subject for photographs. Visitors who look closely will discover hidden faces, including noses and mouths, cleverly integrated into the fruit and floral garlands that adorn the façade.
