Grazer "Urwald"
A Hidden Wilderness in the Heart of the City.
Hidden away on Messendorfberg, the Graz Urban Forest is one of the city's most unusual natural attractions. Covering around three hectares, this remarkable green oasis has developed naturally over many decades. Dense undergrowth, impressive old trees and a wide variety of native and exotic species make the Graz Urban Forest a fascinating destination for anyone who loves nature.
Managed by the Styrian Nature Conservation Youth (Naturschutzjugend Steiermark), the area offers visitors the chance to experience nature in a more untouched setting. Walking paths lead through the woodland, revealing towering giant sequoias, peaceful clearings and ever-changing natural scenery. Families and anyone looking to discover one of Graz's lesser-known green spaces will find a welcome contrast to the lively city centre.
Access to the Graz Urban Forest is permitted until further notice. Visitors are kindly asked to respect nature, stay on the designated paths and help preserve this unique natural habitat.
Just a few kilometres from Graz's historic Old Town, the Graz Urban Forest is a wonderful example of how closely nature and urban life are connected.
