The Lipizzaner stud farm of the Spanish Riding School, the unusual St. Barbara “Hundertwasser" church, onion-coloured Schilcher wine, traditional wine taverns (“Buschenschank”) and wonderful views – western Styria’s most beautiful treasures.

Eastern Styria - volcano country

Visible from afar and over 850 years old, Riegersburg castle is perched on the rock of a volcanic core and affords incomparable views of the magnificent vineyards of south-eastern Styria. This region offers many culinary experiences: the world of Zotter chocolate, traditional old pumpkin seed oil mills, vinegar and schnapps production, air-dried “volcano” ham, cellars with prize-winning wine and plenty more – tasting is of course a must.

Mountains around Graz - hiking paradiese

At the open-air museum in Stübing one can stroll through Austria from Burgenland to Vorarlberg and learn about the rural way of living and working in the past in an idyllic setting.
Stift Rein, the oldest inhabited Cistercian monastery in the world with beautifully painted interiors, delights visitors with its library from the Middle Ages and Baroque collegiate church.
With a height of 1500 metres, the Schöckl is the local mountain of Graz and offers a wonderful panorama of the Styrian hills, the mountains along the southern and western borders, extending to an impressive view of the high peaks of Styria reaching up to 3000 metres. For those who want to take it easy there’s a cable car to the plateau.
