Old Gallery
Alte Galerie - Universalmuseum Joanneum

The collection of the Alte Galerie (in Eggenberg Castle) contains European painting and sculpture from the Romanesque period to the end of the Baroque period, an extensive inventory of Baroque oil sketches, and a cabinet of copper etchings.
From the medieval collection the Admont Madonna and the old Austrian panels stand out particularly.
There are paintings from the Renaissance and the Baroque period (Lucas Cranach, the Elder, Bartholomäus Spranger and Jan Brueghel, the Elder) and from the Austrian Late Baroque (Johann Georg Platzer, Norbert Grund and Franz Christoph Janneck).
The oeuvre of Martin Johann Schmidt alias Kremserschmidt forms a complex of its own.
